CBD Paste is the new star in the cannabidiol sky. Among other things, this is due to the very high cannabidiol concentration and the precise dosing option. According to many users, the quick intake of the viscous paste promises reliable efficacy. The paste, like CBD oil, is extracted from the hemp plant and contains a high degree of purity of the active ingredient cannabidiol. CBD paste is not at all psychoactive as it contains a maximum of very low amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
What is CBD paste?
The special thing about CBD paste is on the one hand the high CBD concentration and on the other hand its viscous consistency. Compared to CBD oil, the cannabidiol content in CBD paste is much higher. CBD pastes with a CBD content of up to 40 or even 60 percent can be purchased. The viscous consistency of the cannabidiol paste is achieved by thickening. CBD oil is thickened during the production process. CBD paste is a high-dose cannabidiol product with a good price-performance ratio and is administered in a dosing device. But how exactly is CBD paste actually made?
Production of cannabidiol paste
The first step is to extract CBD from the hemp plant. The hemp plant contains an inactive precursor of cannabidiol known as CBDa. CBDa is an acid from which the actual CBD is created through certain processes. The process is called decarboxylation in technical language.
Roughly speaking, there are three possible production methods for extracting CBD or CBDa from the hemp plant. Supercritical CO2 extraction is particularly gentle and is therefore considered by many to be the best way of extracting CBD. However, in order to produce an effective CBD paste, the following steps are necessary:
- the extraction of CBDa from the plant.
- the activation of CBDa to CBD (chemically called decarboxylation).
- dissolving the cannabidiol in oil
Extraction of CBD
In order to complete the first two production steps, three different processes are possible, each with different excipients. Let’s take a closer look at the steps.
CO2 extraction
The CBD for the pastes is often obtained by CO2 extraction. The decarboxylation method completely converts CBDa into CBD. First, the components of the hemp plant are crushed and heated up to 150°C. Then, cooled liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) is added under high pressure. This reaction separates the plant components, so CBDa can be skimmed off and activated to CBD.
CBD extraction with alcohol
Hemp is soaked in high-proof alcohol at room temperature. Since cannabidiol is highly soluble in alcohol, CBDa firstly becomes loose from the plant. This resulting solution is heated. The alcohol can evaporate. What remains is the pure active substance.
Oil pulling
When extracting the active substance CBD from the hemp plant, a carrier oil can also be used. However, the result is of low concentration and therefore often not the best way.
CBD in its pure form is crystalline, which is why we also speak of so-called CBD crystals. These are dissolved in oil, whereby the following plant oils can be used
- hemp seed oil
- olive oil
- coconut oil

The difference between CBD hemp oil and CBD paste
In terms of the manufacturing process, CBD oil and CBD paste are very similar. So where exactly is the difference between these two products? Strictly speaking, cannabidiol paste is a highly concentrated form of cannabidiol oil. Cannabidiol isolate, or full spectrum extract, simply has a much smaller amount of oil added to it. A viscous consistency with the high CBD concentration is the special property of the cannabidiol paste. Many users appreciate this form mainly because the application and intake of CBD paste may be easier.
CBD paste application – When is it useful to take it?
Cannabidiol products are used against a wide range of possible complaints. CBD paste is no exception. The paste has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. It can also help with the renewal of cells. CBD is mainly used for chronic pain. This starts with nervousness and goes on to migraines and pain therapy for cancer patients. CBD pastes can have positive long-term effects against a number of diseases.
The hemp paste is characterised by its ease of use. The viscous mass is usually offered in special plastic syringes. This allows the paste to be applied as needed. CBD paste is taken orally. With the dosage syringe, the paste of cannabidiol is simply draped under the tongue.
It is especially recommended to put the viscous mass directly behind the incisors. This is where many very fine nerve tracts are located, so that the cannabidiol active ingredient can enter the bloodstream quickly and directly. It is important to let the paste work in the mouth for some time before swallowing it. This is the most effective way.
Some people like it, others don’t. If the taste of the cannabidiol paste does not necessarily please your palate buds, you can also mix the paste into food. As with all other CBD products, the same applies here: The CBD effect is somewhat reduced by absorption in the stomach or intestines.
- Advantage of CBD paste: The advantage of CBD paste is its high effectiveness. This is because cannabidiol pastes are available with a macro-dose of 30, 40 or even 60%. This dose is many times higher than that of conventional CBD oil. The pastes therefore have much more power to fight the symptoms and diseases and thus to work.
The right dosage of CBD paste
CBD dosage is a crucial factor when taking it. On the one hand, a dosage that is too low can cause you to feel no effect. On the other hand, an overdose of CBD is harmless according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), but you don’t want to give your body too much cannabidiol unnecessarily. Every cannabidiol product has a different CBD concentration, and each body reacts differently to CBD intake. Therefore, the dosage question cannot be answered in one sentence. CBD pastes have a high cannabidiol concentration, so special sensitivity is required.
As with all other CBD products, the following rule also applies to CBD pastes: start low and increase slowly, therefore start with a low dose first. You can gradually increase this to find the right dosage for you. Allow a few days to pass between increases. The body needs time to react to the new product. This is the only way for the body to get used to the cannabidiol-containing product.
Since there is no universal recommendation for the correct dosage of CBD, you have to find out for yourself which dosage suits you. Depending on your age, general condition, symptoms of illness and body weight, you will take more or less CBD. In general, CBD is very well tolerated. It does not restrict your ability to drive, nor does it have an intoxicating or addictive effect. However, we recommend using our dosage calculator for a better calculation of the dose!
Is there an overdose of CBD paste?
Of course, mistakes can be made when calculating the dosage. It can then happen that you take in more CBD than desired. In contrast to synthetic medicines, however, the side effects of CBD are generally harmless:
- according to the WHO, even a strong overdose does not lead to any significant damage, but neither does it have a stronger effect
- CBD does not impair the ability to drive and is permitted for drivers.
- possible side effects are at most severe fatigue, drowsiness and low blood pressure
- too low a dosage can lead to the product having no effect
Tip
- Start with a low dosage of your cannabidiol product. Since CBD pastes contain a relatively high concentration of CBD, you need to be particularly sensitive. Increase your intake slowly until you feel a noticeable effect. It is always a good idea to wait a few days or weeks before increasing. Sometimes your body simply needs some time to react to the active ingredient. Increasing too quickly can lead to you taking more CBD than necessary.
Effect – How does CBD paste affect the body?
A big advantage of cannabidiol paste is that it is absorbed into the body in two ways. First, the active ingredient passes through the oral mucosa and then further through the stomach into the bloodstream. This ensures a fast and reliable effectiveness of CBD in paste form.
Even if the taste can take some getting used to at first, it is recommended to drape the paste under the tongue or especially behind the incisors. This is because there are a lot of very fine nerve tracts here. This allows the CBD to enter the blood within a few seconds and the effect can be immediate. After some time, swallow the paste. The rest of the active ingredient is absorbed in the stomach.
Tip
- The best absorption with the highest effectiveness of the CBD paste is achieved by placing the paste directly behind the incisors.
In addition, the paste is absorbed through the stomach. Here, however, the body’s reaction is delayed. In addition, the effect can be reduced if the CBD is only absorbed via the gastrointestinal tract. If the CBD paste is nevertheless only absorbed via the stomach, it also depends on the contents of the stomach. The fuller the stomach, the slower the effect.
The speed of absorption through the digestive tract therefore depends on the food previously eaten. After a rich meal, it can take between 15 and 30 minutes for the active ingredient to be fully absorbed. If the stomach is empty, the CBD can unfold its effect much faster.
Tip
- You can take the CBD paste independently of food intake. As the substance is very gentle on the stomach and easy to digest, CBD paste can also be taken on an empty stomach.
Which diseases can CBD paste help with?
The following diseases, for example, can be treated with the help of cannabidiol products such as paste:
- ADHD
- Alzheimer’s disease
- antibiotic resistance
- arthrosis
- arthritis
- depression / anxiety disorders
- epilepsy
- fibromyalgia
- inflammations
- cancer
- migraine
- MS
- osteoporosis
- sleep disorders
CBD pastes also contain many vitamins, minerals and trace elements. For example, vitamin E, vitamin B1, iron, potassium, calcium, copper, manganese, magnesium, sodium and zinc are components of the paste. Other immune boosters in CBD pastes are chlorophyll (ensures optimal cell respiration) and carotenoids (prevents ageing).
Does CBD paste have side effects?
Whether and to what extent CBD paste has side effects is first and foremost a question of definition. Cannabidiol has numerous effects, which vary from user to user. This can also vary from product to product.
Let us then assume the following case: I use CBD paste to relieve my pain. This works very well and the cannabidiol has an analgesic effect on me. At the same time, I feel a decrease in appetite. This is not necessarily negative, but in this example of use it is a side effect, as the reduction in appetite was not my intention when I took CBD paste.
In this sense, there are of course “side effects” with CBD. Negative side effects, as they are often found on the package inserts of medicines, do not exist here. Only in studies in which highly increased amounts of CBD were given to test persons, slight side effects such as dizziness or increased high blood pressure were observed.
Buying CBD paste – what to look for
First of all, you should know what you want to take the product for. Are you just starting to take CBD? Or have you already found your right dosage? As mentioned, different manufacturers offer a variety of pastes with different cannabidiol concentrations. In addition, the products differ from each other in their composition. It is best to find out for yourself which CBD paste suits you. By reading comparisons and test reports, you will learn more about the product of your choice. Last but not least, trying out CBD paste will optimise your choice.
However, there are some criteria that speak for a good quality CBD paste:
- content of CBD
- extraction of the CBD with CO2 extraction
- high-quality carrier oil
- cultivation and cultivation country of the hemp plants
- price/performance ratio
The right cannabidiol content
CBD paste is available in different dosages. Above all, the price naturally depends on how much active ingredient (cannabidiol) is contained in each case. The most common products in this segment are:
Product name | CBD content |
CBD Paste 20 | 20% |
CBD Paste 30 | 30% |
CBD Paste 40 | 40% |
CBD Paste 50 | 50% |
CBD Paste 60 | 60% |
… | … |
Tip
- As a beginner, look for a lower dose of CBD content in the paste when buying. The body must first get used to taking CBD. This will help you avoid any side effects.
Is cannabidiol paste legal in the UK?
For the interested user, the question naturally arises whether CBD paste is legal in the UK. For some cannabinoid products, such as CBD flowers, there are legal restrictions. What therefore is the situation with the paste?
From a legal point of view, it is the same as with CBD oil. In the end, CBD paste is also a kind of CBD oil, but in a viscous form. In the UK, there is no upper limit on the CBD content of products, which means that the purchase and sale of cannabidiol-containing paste is not a problem in this respect.
However, it is important that the THC content is below 0.2%. If CBD paste is sold as a food supplement, the following applies:
- certified CBD online shop
- established and well-known online pharmacy
- if applicable, a laboratory analysis of the product
- no healing promises
- organic certificate of the manufacturer, if organic is declared on the products
